Gent le me21,
It appears that amongst the cargs brought forward
by you from sheltering enemy ships was a lot of 100 mild soft steel plates ex 8.8. *Scandia" which were transhipped to shanghai and wors sold by you in order to satisfy your lien which arose under your Hamburg A.B. 5979 which was drawn for £556.1.5. The cargo was sold for a sun which gave a considerable surplus over the amount of the bill.
I cannot ascertain that you received any per- mission to take this oergo forward from the 8.8. "Soendia" to Shanghai, and I aball be much obliged if you will kindly refer me to your authority for doing so. The cargo wes not included in the lists attached to your letter of the 28rd. September, 1915, which purported to be complete lists of all the GBT EO under. lien to you which then was or recently had been on board anony ships. You will appreciate that the result of forwarding such cargo to a non-British port is that the Crown loses its right against the surplus.
¡
Yours faithfully,
(ED.) J. E. Konp,
Attorney General.
